Who else remembers seeing harvest loaves like this growing up? Handmade at Watkins Bakery in Kilgetty by baker Sophie, this loaf took pride of place at the Parish of Pembroke Dock Harvest Thanksgiving last Sunday.
Complete with sheaves of wheat, little harvest details and even a tiny mouse, it’s the bakery’s first of the year and a real beauty too.
“There’s something so lovely about keeping traditional bakery skills like this alive, especially at this time of year,” said Watkins Bakery. “We think Sophie absolutely smashed it!”
The Parish of Pembroke Dock was delighted:
“We are so very grateful to you for your amazing baking skills, and for making this for us! You have been wonderful and we are so happy!”
The harvest loaf took pride of place at the harvest service on Sunday morning, and was shared together for Communion and for the Harvest supper.
The bakery responded: “Thank you again for choosing our little family bakery to be a part of such a special tradition, it was a real pleasure to make!”
The family-run business in Kilgetty was established in 1920 by Gordan Watkins after serving in WWI. Today it offers a huge range of freshly baked goods including breads, baps, baguettes, quiche, jam doughnuts and plenty more, all baked fresh daily. Watkins bakery is open 7.30am-2.30pm, Monday to Friday
