AT Narberth and District Probus Club’s August meeting, members were privileged to meet and hear from two ladies on the committee of the U3A Narberth Branch.

Red Cottam and Lynda Hill told the audience that the Narberth Branch has 180 members comprising 29 groups ranging from beginners’ art and drawing to creative writing, history, archaeology, French conversation, cribbage, walking and strolling, poker, canasta and other games.

U3A empowers people in later life to live healthier, more connected, and purposeful lives. Through its peer-led, volunteer driven model, U3A fosters lifelong learning, social connection, and active contribution, creating a vibrant community of shared curiosity and purpose.

It is one of the largest membership organisations in the UK with over 430,000 active members in over 1,000 U3As. Membership is open to everyone who has stepped away from full-time work; from employment, caring for others or raising a family.

Everything at U3A is powered by volunteers. As a volunteer movement, the members all take it in turns to share their skills and knowledge with each other. This is learning with a difference. There are no teachers and students, no classes and no exams. U3A offers interest groups and activities and it is all done just for fun with lots of laughter along the way.

The next meeting of Narberth sand District Probus Club will be on September 24 when club member Roger Penn will tell everyone about Churchill’s travels around West Wales.
