ANNE and Ian from the Trussell Trust told St Issell’s WI members how the charity’s Food Bank, which started some 11 years ago, now has six branches throughout Pembrokeshire.
They were welcomed to the October meeting in Saundersfoot by president Diane Rigden, who also issued a special welcome to Rachel West, paying St Issell’s WI a visit.
Anne and Ian told the ladies that the food bank receives many donations from various individuals and organisations, with trolleys in various supermarkets where people can donate items, together with a Fair Share scheme where volunteers collected items from Supermarkets which are nearing their sell-by date. They explained that the Trussell Trust makes up food parcels for single people, couples and families, also welcoming visitors with a cup of tea and a chat. The charity has an advisor who can help with filling out forms.
Anne and Ian answered many questions from the floor. Val John thanked them for a most interesting evening.
Following refreshments, Mary Howells was thanked for the flowers for the top table on behalf of Julia King-Thomas, and birthday wishes went to Jeanette John and Pam Roberts
Those ladies who had visited Picton Castle for the September meeting had had an enjoyable visit with a delicious lunch. The cake stall in the summer had been very successful, raising just over £300. Bulbs had been received, and will be planted in a specially made planter with help from Saundersfoot in Bloom.
Madelene is arranging a walk on Monday, November 10, meeting at the Coal Office on Saundersfoot Harbour at 1.30pm.
It was agreed to pay £20 towards ACWW Coins for friendship. Several ladies took a Rotary Club shoebox, to fill for disadvantaged children overseas.
Ladies are asked to bring a deposit of £10 if they intend going to the Christmas lunch at Bramleys Tearooms on December 4. There was some discussion about a carol service, to be held in St Issell’s Church, probably on December 10.
It was agreed to hold the January, February and March meetings in the afternoon, starting at 2pm.
Diane presented Mary Howells with a cup which she had shared with another lady as winners of the cookery section of the rosebowl competition. Diane read the county newsletter, and Anything Goes discussions ensued. It was agreed to have a meeting on November 18 at 10.30 am at St Bride’s Hotel. There will also be a meeting of those interested in the rosebowl competition, but no date was arranged. Ladies discussed starting a craft group.
Several ladies are attending the Annual Meeting on November 15 when delegates will vote regarding the proposition in WI Life. Diane won this month’s competition, with Sue Gould winning the raffle. Diane wished ladies a safe journey home, looking forward to seeing everyone in the November meeting.
