MEMBERS of St Issell’s WI were welcomed to the April meeting by president Diane Rigden, who then gave a special welcome to three ladies - Rachel Smith, Rachel Jones and Mary Sefton - who had recently attended a course on Sashiko, a type of Japanese embroidery.

They had brought along samples they had made, describing the methods used and how the embroidery was used in families often covering three generations. They then helped ladies to try the Sashiko method, some doing very well and enjoying the experience.

Diane then brought out a beautiful birthday cake and everyone sang happy birthday in honour of St Issell’s WI’s 45th birthday.

A card had been received from Pat and Don Poole thanking ladies for the flowers for their recent Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

Birthday wishes were expressed to Mary Howells, Maureen North and Rachel Smith, and Val John was congratulated on the birth of her first great grandson. Diane read the newsletter: there was no interest in the quiz on April 24 or the fashion show at Letterston.

The Anything Goes ladies were all ready for their performance the next evening. And the Rosebowl ladies were working hard on their entry. It was noted that the Annual Meeting would be streamed at the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, but there were no further details regarding lunch.

This month’s competition winner was Pam Roberts, and the lucky raffle winners were Joy Nixon, Val John, Eva Rich and Jeanette John. As well as the birthday cake, ladies had enjoyed a delicious Bara Brith made by sue Haines, another celebration of the 45th birthday.
