PEMBROKE and District Male Voice Choir’s concert before a very large gathering at the Cresselly Arms, Cresswell Quay brought together new recruits and old friends in the evening sunshine.

For the concert, which took place on July 17 and included a summer barbecue, Musical Director Juliet Rossiter chose a very varied programme. It included another appearance of ‘The Cheeky Boys’ - choristers drawn from the choir’s four sections. Deputy MD Ian Williams conducted one of the items, the Welsh favourite ‘Rachie’, and the whole programme was warmly applauded.

Accompanist William Lambert was welcomed back and MC Matthew John was in his usual top form.

Baritone Peter Lane staged for the first time while other recent recruits also sampled their first concert experience.

And for the encore - Elvis Presley’s ‘American Trilogy’ - everyone was delighted to welcome Charlie Hare back to the first tenor ranks. Charlie, now 91, sang with the choir for nearly 40 years before he retired, and he met up with many friends.

The choir is raising funds for a defibrillator, as additional equipment which can be brought to every concert event, and the amount raised that evening topped £220, plus generous donation from Steve, the landlord of the Cresselly Arms.

Catch the choir at Pembroke Farmers’ Club Show at Lamphey next Wednesday.
