NEW Hedges WI President Ann Maggs welcomed everyone to the October meeting at the village hall. Women’s Institute business included taking names for lunch at the Boar’s Head, Templeton; news of Frances Phillips entering the Bisley Munt art competition; and confirming three members are to attend the Pembrokeshire Annual Meeting. Interest was shown in a possible theatre trip to Cardiff.
Unfortunately, the speaker booked for the afternoon was unable to come, so instead, Pat Hemsley conducted a much simpler version of ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ called ‘Where Were You Born’! She mapped the results on a large plan of the British Isles (with extra space for other countries). The ladies found that their birthplaces ranged from Tenby Cottage Hospital to Poland! However, as expected, most clustered around South Wales and the West Midlands. After refreshments they continued the theme with some amusing word games, led by Barbara Poole.
The competition, ‘Harvest’ was won by Barbara Pegg, the second place going to Jan Evans.
Food and cash donations collected at this meeting will be delivered to Patch.
Next month, the general meeting will be followed by a practical craft session led by the Craft Subcommittee. It will take place on Thursday, November 12, at 2pm in New Hedges Village Hall. Why not give this friendly group a try? You will be made very welcome.
