AS a County Councillor on Pembrokeshire County Council, and in his capacity as Member Champion for Equality, Cllr Thomas Tudor attended the Show Racism the Red Card roadshow at Pembrokeshire College in Haverfordwest.
“It was extremely interesting and beneficial,” he said of the October 28 roadshow.
“The roadshow included practical and interactive sessions, supporting all who attended to learn about challenging racism, promoting inclusion and how to create safer and more respectful environments across communities, schools, workplaces and every day life.
“Many thanks to all the staff from Show Racism the Red Card Wales division and to all the staff at Pembrokeshire College who made all the attendees feel so welcome.”
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) Wales offers a wide range of educational workshops and training programmes designed for schools, workplaces, corporate teams, third-sector organisations, and sports clubs. Each session is tailored to meet the unique needs of the organisation, helping it to build inclusion, understanding, and equality.
Show Racism the Red Card was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
In 1990s Newcastle, Shaka was at a petrol station near St James’ Park when he was confronted with a group of young people shouting racist abuse at him. After one of the group realised that they had been shouting at Shaka Hislop, the Newcastle United football player, they came over to ask for an autograph.
This summer and into autumn, Show Racism the Red Card has been visiting every local authority in Wales with its ‘How to Talk About’ roadshows.
With expert panel discussion and interactive workshops, these morning events are designed to build confidence, challenge racism, and support real change in communities across Wales, giving attendees practical tools to have honest, meaningful conversations about racism and anti-racism.
