DESPITE the cold weather and the prospect of another storm in the offing, 21 members of Carew WI gathered together for the first meeting of 2026. (The photos of kurling here are from Cosheston WI, 2023.)

President Edith wished all a Happy New Year and invited everyone to join in singing Jerusalem. Birthdays celebrated, minutes read, sanctioned and signed, members were reminded of the PENFRO group December Carol Concert which raised £200 for the Children in Need charity.

A brief sharing of the PFWI County Letter was followed by the treasurer’s report and a discussion on subscriptions.

A welcome break then for tea, coffee, pikelets and biscuits followed before members split into teams to play indoor Kurling.

These games were passionately played out culminating in a decider round. It made a refreshing change - by participating, spectating and scoring - it allowed members to chat, share tactics, cheer on and actively enjoy a fun but competitive game - mingling for an hour with each other- before heading back out into the chilly Winter weather.
