A community cast of around 20 people from Tenby and the surrounding area are all very enthusiastic about being involved in the National Theatre Wales’ ‘Tide Whisperer’ production coming to the resort next month.
‘Tide Whisperer’ written by poet and playwright Louise Wallwein MBE, which runs from September 13 to 16 , will lead audiences from the De Valence Pavillion, through the cobbled streets of Tenby and on to the beach.
“Most of the community cast already sing and perform in existing choirs and groups, but some are totally new to performing - so this is the first time they’ve all sung together and the sound amazing!” said Nia Jones from National Theatre Wales.
“They’re now meeting twice a week, usually in the church hall at St Teilo’s.
The group are also working with the directors and with Ezra who is a professional cast member and ‘Movement Coach’ for the community cast
“They’ll be singing original music, composed by John Hardy, with lyrics by the writer of Tide Whisperer – Louise Wellwein.
“Community cast members may also act as volunteers, leading some of groups through the route of this promenade performance.
“We are hoping that the Community Choir will continue meeting after the show as a NTW choir, lead by local NTW members Robert Price, as part of our longer term collaboration work in Tenby,” she added.
Writer Louise Wellwein has also been working with Ysgol Greenhill School in Tenby, running workshops and producing a ballad ahead of the show.
