The RNLI chose Pembrokeshire College as the ideal location to launch the Welsh RNLI Swim a Mile fund-raising appeal.
A team of seasoned lifeguards and RNLI area fund-raising manager, Bev Rosser-Smith, joined enthusiastic staff and students to help raise awareness of the charity swim that will ultimately raise funds to train and equip volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards.
"We have a strong relationship with the RNLI through continuous student fund-raising efforts," said Pembrokeshire College tutor and lifeboat crew member, Denys Bassett-Jones.
"The great thing about the fund-raising appeal, is that people can swim a mile in one go, or over several weeks."
Pembrokeshire was the first county in Wales to benefit from the RNLI beach lifeguard scheme.
"In partnership with the county council, the RNLI is hoping to roll out the scheme to Cardiganshire and Carmarthenshire this year," commented Chris Rigby, HM coastguard and RNLI lifeguard supervisor.
The RNLI are looking to recruit young people to work as lifeguards around various beaches in the area. Posts are available from April to late September. To help make your beach safer for everyone, find out more at rnli.org.uk/jobs.
