Congratulations to Councillor Dai Morgan who has been installed as Mayor of Tenby for a fourth consecutive term - marking a significant moment in the seaside town's history as the first Mayor to serve four consecutive terms since the First World War.

At the March meeting of Tenby Town Council, members voted to return Cllr Morgan to the office of Mayor unopposed, reflecting the strong support and confidence he continues to receive from fellow councillors.

In remarks to fellow councillors before the vote, Cllr Morgan reflected on the encouragement he had received from the community and the responsibility of continuing in the role.

Cllr Morgan said: “In recent weeks, I have been grateful for the encouragement I have received from residents, community organisations and Members of this Council asking whether I would consider continuing for a further year.

“I have also spoken with my family, whose unwavering support has always made it possible for me to carry out the duties of this office.

“It remains a privilege to serve this town entrusted once more, I will do my up most to honour that trust and continue working for the good of Tenby.”

Councillors said they looked forward to another year of dedicated service to the town and its residents.

Cllr Morgan was officially installed as Mayor at the Town Council’s Annual General Meeting this month.

His wife, Melanie, will once again be his as mayoress; whilst his daughter Erin is town crier and son Miles helps out as a mace-bearer stand-in.

Cllr Tom Sloan will be Deputy Mayor for the second year running, with his wife Daniella Sloan as Deputy Mayoress.

Mrs Denise Cousins was appointed once again as Sergeant at Mace.

The Mayor appointed Rev Steve Brett as his Chaplain for the coming year 2026-2027.

The Mayor presented a Scroll to Leading Cadet Jack Bainton as Mayor’s Cadet, adding that Tenby Sea Cadets support the community greatly.

He said that this is a great experience for cadets and he has seen a difference in the confidence of those cadets appointed in the past. It sets them up for the future and valuable life lessons can be learned.

The Mayor also announced the creation of the ‘Trevor Hallett Award’ - an annual honour which will recognise individuals who show outstanding dedication to the seaside town, in paying tribute to the late Cllr Trevor Hallett, who passed away aged 86, in March.

“Recently, we lost a dear friend and colleague, Councillor Trevor Hallett. Trevor was a true steward of this town and this council. I don’t think I can add anything to the many kind words already said about him in recent weeks. But what I can do is ensure his legacy lives on,” remarked the Mayor.

“Tonight, I am proud to announce the creation of a new and prestigious honour: the Trevor Hallett Award. This will be awarded each year to someone in our town who has shown unwavering dedication and commitment to Tenby.

“The recipient will be chosen by the incoming Mayor and presented at Mayor Making. It is a small gesture—but one that ensures Trevor will always be remembered for his outstanding service to the town he loved.”

Cllr Morgan continued: “Thank you all sincerely for placing your trust in me once again, and for electing me to serve as Mayor of Tenby for an historic fourth consecutive term.

“It is a truly humbling honour. The last Mayor to achieve such a milestone was David Morgan, whose service began some 112 years ago. He sat in this very chair, around this very table, wore this same chain of office, and went on to serve six years in a row.

“Mrs Mayoress… don’t panic, that’s where the similarities end, and I’ve been firmly told at home that four is quite enough!

“To be standing here for a fourth term is something I never dreamt of, and certainly never set out to achieve. It is, and always will be, a tremendous honour to serve this town as its First Citizen.

“I remain committed to working hard, representing Tenby with pride and doing all I can to support our community in the year ahead. And I promise, at least for now - I won’t be aiming for six!

“Thank you once again for your confidence, it truly means a great deal,” he added.
