Pembrokeshire Classic Car Club recently presented three local charities with donations from monies raised at their very successful 'Silver Anniversary Classic Car Show' held at Scolton Manor in June.

Recipients of cheques for £500 each were Maria Evans from Tinkers Hill, Bird of Prey and Swan Rescue Centre, Amroth; Mr. Ken Brombley from HOPE, MS Therapy Centre, Neyland; and Mrs. Tracy Olin, accompanied by her husband Jan, together with helpers from MATCH, Poverty and Deprivation in Pembrokeshire, which is based in Milford Haven.

Each recipient made a speech of thanks and explained to the members exactly what their charity did and where the donations would be directed.

A buffet was provided by the car club for the members and the charity attendees, but unfortunately Maria Evans had a phone call to say she had to collect a rescue swan and had to leave early.

The presentation took place at Haverfordwest Cricket Club, which was the first meeting of the club after the summer months when the club meets at various shows and outings (weather permitting).

The outings the club organises are getting very popular with members, new and old, and are very well supported. They include Sunday lunch outings, picnics to coincide with a place of local interest, fish and chip evening runs, treasure hunts and quizzes to be completed by the car occupants during the run.

One of the trips which was enjoyed by all was to a venue of a different 'horse power' from that usually talked about by the car enthusiasts, and that was to the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust, Llangadog, a small charity dedicated to ponies and horses which are old, abandoned or cruelly treated.

After a very informative tour and talk about the work of the trust and why it was formed, the car club members enjoyed a buffet and raffle, which raised a substantial donation for the centre.

The club is always looking for new venues to visit with their cars and would welcome ideas or suggestions from local places of interest to include in the forthcoming calendar of events for the next 12 months.

New members are also very welcome, so if you have a classic car, or you are considering purchasing one, just give the secretary, Mrs. Margaret Griffiths, a call on (01646) 698233, or visit the club website, http://www.pempsclassiccarclub.co.uk">www.pempsclassiccarclub.co.uk, to see what the club offers.

Meetings take place on the last Thursday of the month (during the winter) in Haverfordwest Cricket Club at 8 pm.
