Planners have voted against removal of a cinema from a multi-million pound development in Tenby.
At Wednesday's development management control meeting of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, members went against officers' recommendation in relation to an application by South Terrace Properties Ltd.
The company had previously been granted permission to redevelop the site of the former Royal Gatehouse Hotel and Royal Playhouse Cinema, to provide 39 apartments, a 68-bed hotel, three commercial units and a replacement cinema.
This week, planners considered a new application to change the use of the cinema to allow use for retail, financial, food and drink uses.
A report before the committee stated the reason for the application was that 'in the absence of funding, the retention of the cinema would prejudice the funding and implementation of the overall scheme.'
Planners also considered letters from Tenby Town Council and Tenby Civic Society, both of which opposed the application.
After consideration, members voted to refuse the application by a count of 10 votes to four, with one abstention.
A spokesperson for the Park Authority said afterwards: "The main reasons for refusal were a lack of marketing, nor a business case to justify the loss of a cinema or other D2/community use, and that the redevelopment schemes as a whole should have a mix of uses, including D2/community for the vitality, viability and diversity of Tenby town."
