New Life Church

Message by Garry Emlyn: We don’t often feel holy, especially if we swear, shout or do something wrong! We aren’t perfect but because of Jesus we can be holy. It’s not about tradition, religion or rules; if there’s no change it’s more like lip service.

There’s no holiness in the world’s wisdom, our holiness comes from the cross. Jesus died so we can have life, He lives in us now with His purity and holiness. We are not perfect, Jesus is.

Do you know God? Great! God gives us holiness. Talk, pray and listen to God, be filled with God’s Spirit, then there are no limits. God promises the Holy Spirt without limit, meaning nothing is impossible.

Ask God for more. Worship God, activate your faith, with praise and prayer.

We are spiritual vessels. We can be filled with any spirt that’s around, including dark, evil spirits. God is Light His Spirit is holy. If we follow Jesus then His Spirt lives in us.

We have various stories of how we first truly encountered God; at home, in church, outside church, but truly meeting God changed us.

In the Old Testament God’s presence was in the Temple, now we are temples of God’s Spirit.

None of us are perfect, we all do wrong, there’s hope for everyone. We can all change, regardless of what the world, media or people say! Jesus can set you free and make you whole. Turn from the road to destruction and look to Jesus today.

The Old Chapel, Tenby

Winter is not far away from us now (writes Ian Rees) - though we have all been grateful for a relatively mild November, it won’t be long before the cold is upon us. Please feel free to drop in to our coffee shop during the week. You will find it a warm and welcoming place, where soup, sandwiches, tea coffee and cakes are all free. Our opening hours are going to change a little - we shall be open from 11am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday. The Community Fridge we run from there will also be open from 11am. The food you will find there is also free for you to help yourself. There is always plenty of bread, baguettes, pastries etc as well as some chilled food.

It won’t be long before we will be thinking of the birth of our Lord, celebrated over Christmas. Already the shops are filling with Christmas decorations and it won’t be long before we’ll be told, ‘Have yourself a merry Christmas if the fates allow’. Christians, of course, don’t believe in the fates, neither do we hold much to luck, either good or bad. We see the providential hand of our God in all things and refer to His blessings, not good luck. One of my children came home several years ago and said, ‘Dad, I had some bad blessings today!’ She knew better than to say she had had some bad luck. It is our prayer that God will bless you, shower with you His blessings - and if you get some bad ones, come and tell us about them! We can always pray about them with you. God bless you.

Holyrood & St Teilo’s Catholic Church, Tenby

On Sunday, as the Church’s liturgical year reached its climax, we celebrated the Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. He is risen and sits at God`s right hand. From there, He rules over Heaven and Earth. But it is not an earthly Kingdom.

The mockery, the scourging, the cruel death by crucifixion that Jesus endured on Good Friday was because he claimed to be a King, the Messiah, and it was Rome`s way of warning the people that they would do the same to anyone else who might try to do the same.

Most people looking at that scene would never have believed that a naked man nailed to a cross could be king. He looked too weak and powerless. However, the thief who was crucified beside Him recognizes that Jesus is who He says He is and says, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

This is remarkable because we look at Jesus on the cross and know that He will rise from the dead and ascend into Heaven. But this criminal didn`t know that. Yet, he was able to see in the broken body of Jesus his Saviour and his Lord.

Jesus made Himself weak and powerless so that He could serve the weak and powerless. If we are to be His Church, then we must be and do the same.

Masses from St Teilo’s can be viewed on-line from the parish website. News of Parish events are available in the newsletter and on the website www.stteilostenby.co.uk. Parish Tel: 01834 842692.

St Johns Church, Tenby

On Sunday, Rev’d Stella Hayton took the service, with Liz reading Jeremiah 23 v 1-6. Stella introduced the congregation to ‘sheep’ balloons with a face on them which she with the help of John and Kate spread the balloons around the church. The Bible tells us that people are like sheep – we get scared easily and even if we pretend that we aren’t worried we still wander off. We need a shepherd like sheep to look after us. Liz’s reading tells us that God was angry with the leaders, because they hadn’t looked after their people. So God promised to send a shepherd who would search for lost sheep and bring them back home.

At Christmas we remember when Jesus came to be a Shepherd and a King. He is a King who looks after us, knows us by name. With him looking after us, there’s nothing we need to be scared of.

Kate read Luke 23 v33-43. This was about the names Jesus was mocked with on the Cross. Names are important, A few months ago people wondered what name Prince Charles would choose. We have known him as Charles for over 70 years and while his role has changed, the continuity of the name shows that he keeps the interests and concerns that have always been close to his heart. But we are more interested in Jesus as King - and Stella introduced a skit with Kate interviewing John as Jesus. With a bit of comedy mixed in, it was very thought provoking as to answers that Jesus gave.

The service concluded with refreshments in the school room. Melony Ablitt is the minister for the 11am service on Sunday, November 27. Monday is Craft 2 to 4pm, and Wednesday coffee morning 10am to midday with hot Welsh Cakes on Sale. Everyone is welcome to a warm place in St Johns Church.

In all kinds of ways, we all experience the challenges of learning. Whether a Fresher at University or facing challenges at home, or in our workplace, God wants us to do our best.

‘Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.’ (2Tim 2:15).

Study and learning help us to achieve good results, and we also discover much about ourselves and our world in the process.

Excelling and failing and being limited are all part of that learning experience that teaches and informs us and enables us to make the choices needed to go in the right direction. This involves important life choices that need to be carefully considered with the help of God, tutors, parents, good friends, managers, and those who have the experience.

Do not let failure or limitations stand in your way. God tells us to call upon him; so first talk with God about your situation and plans. James 1:5 says; ‘If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.’

Trust in the Lord, whether as a child of God or one turning for the first time to the Saviour of the world. If you are trusting God, know that he is always at your side directing your path.
