Sir,

Particularly at this time of year there is little more distressing than losing a wallet. Apart from any money involved, there is also having to cope with the loss of membership cards, library cards, bus passes, credit and debit cards and the list goes on.

I lost mine two days before Christmas. I thought I had lost it in Sainsbury's, but the manager and staff were sympathetic and kind, and the manager looked at the security tapes which established that I had left the supermarket with the wallet.

As a last ditch attempt to find it, and with little hope, I retraced my steps yet again, calling in on various shops en route to see if some honest person might have picked it up and left it with the staff of a shop. I was surprised and delighted to find that an honest an anonymous lady had indeed picked it up, and placed it in the care of the staff at Four Seasons.

I hope you will allow me to thank the anonymous lady through your pages, as well as the staff at Four Seasons who passed it on. As well as getting the wallet and its contents back, it was a great boost to my faith in human nature, which gave me a real lift at this festive time of year. I would further like to thank the courteous, helpful and sympathetic way in which the manager and staff at Sainsbury's assisted me, as well as the policeman to whom I reported the loss.

David Bleines,
