Lent is a time for giving up pleasures - and people in Tenby area are invited to forego a hearty meal on Wednesdays during the festival. That's when three Christian Aid supporters in the town - St Johns, the Salvation Army and St. Mary's are holding special 'frugal' lunches. Everyone is welcome to these Lent meals, consisting only of home-made soup, a roll and a cup of tea or coffee. Yet it's a friendly social occasion with the chance of a good natter, The Rev. Michael John, Tenby's Vicar, said: "It's important to give a true meaning to Lent which is a time of personal sacrifice for spiritual reasons. "But by cutting out a meal in favour of a light snack, it also shows respect for the many people of the world for whom a square meal is a luxury. "Even a few pounds is enough to save the life of a child or adult in poverty stricken countries." Tenby's Lent lunches cost £3 per person - and all the money raised goes to Christian Aid to help starving families. The first lunch is at St. Mary's Church House on Wednesday, February 13. Then there's a lunch at St. Johns on February 20. A week later sees the turn of St. Mary's again, followed on March 5 by St. Johns and St. Mary's again on March 12. The final frugal lunch is at the Salvation Army in Upper Park Road on March 19. All the events begin at noon and continue into the early afternoon. Anyone who hasn't time to come is kindly invited to leave donations for Christian Aid at the door.
