A recent concert at the National Trust's Stackpole Centre was pay-back time as far as Tenby Male Choir was concerned.

Such is the quality of the acoustics in the centre's purpose-built theatre, that the 36-strong choir chose to record its latest CD there.

In return, the choir which has a packed diary of appointments, offered to give a concert at Stackpole and members decided to donate the takings to Stackpole church SS James and Elidyr.

The National Trust is keen to provide support where it can for community projects and past activities have included reinstating a circular path at the church, in conjunction with church members and the National Park authority.

The well attended concert included a mix of traditional Welsh pieces and modern popular numbers, conducted by Ian Williams and accompanied by Jill Williams.

The choir's CD, Tonau o gan - Waves of Song, is on sale at the Stackpole Centre. More details can be found at Tenbymalechoir.org.

Choir chairman, Terry Evans and secretary Eric Mullins presented a cheque for £250 to lay minister Anita Howells and church warden Eric Nicholas.

Mr. Nicholas said: "We greatly appreciated this gesture. We are very grateful to the choir for this donation which will go towards essential electrical works on the church."

As the choir plans its next run of concerts, Mrs. Howells is gathering materials for the annual history exhibition which takes place this year from July 29 to August 3.

It will cover all aspects of Stackpole's history, including fascinating facts and photographs of life on the Stackpole estate.
