Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir is a willing supporter of Remembrance Services and one week after their appearance in Cardiff's St. David's Hall Remembrance Service, they were again called to action at St. Andrew's Church, Narberth. Colonel Peter Howells, President of Wales's Royal British Legion, Jack Phoenix and secretary Lyn Thomas, Legion members and organisers, were in attendance. The British Legion has an unsurpassed reputation for helping ex-servicemen cope with problems encountered as a result of their profession. The Mayor and Mayoress, Clr. Eric Feetham and Mrs. Feetham, were also present at the service, together with a full public audience. P&DMVC were there in support of the occasion, but they were also there to lift the spirits, and this they did, right royally! The audience, entertained by a varied programme, were forewarned by MC Phil Lloyd to pay close attention to conductor Christine Lloyd. Regrettably, they were once again caught out over the finish of 'Saints'. Many audiences have fallen before and many will again no doubt, but it was all taken in good humour. Soloists Henry Johnston, David Thomas, Allyson Griffiths and accompanist Jenny Griffiths all played sterling roles in support of the choir. It was also a great pleasure to see and hear Owen Jones back to the rudest of health after an indifferent spell. The delightful and popular Juliet Rossiter, conductor of Whitland MVC, provided support on the church organ, both before the service and during the communal hymns. Phil Thompson, of Chevron and P&DMVC president, spoke warmly of the choir, of their contributions to charitable works and of his personal pride in being asked to address the service and promote the work of the Legion. Rev. Peter Lewis, St. Andrew's Narberth, conducted prayers and read the list of the fallen, with Legion members giving voice to the service expressions. Standard bearers were noted as being especially smart and disciplined. Before the national anthems were sung to finish the evening service, the choir sang the rousing, triumphant and faith affirming anthem 'There is no Death'. Is there a finer, more defiant piece to hurl back at the aspect of mortality? We think not! The choir, and musical team, offer thanks to the church ladies for the generous hospitality provided following the service. A.S.
