Recently, Côr Meibion de Cymru (South Wales Choir) honoured a founder member with life membership.

Ken Williams, of Highfield Park, Narberth, was presented with a framed certificate by the choir senior vice-president and a founder member, Phil Howells, during a recent full choir rehearsal.

In awarding Ken Williams life membership, the choir recognised his personal commitment and contribution as a chorister, as chairman of the West Wales group and for the past 12 years as chairman of the Pembrokeshire group.

At one stage, he supported the choir as an assistant treasurer.

Since the choir's formation in 1982, Ken has many memories of choir tours and fellowship to the United States, Canada and Western Europe, and concerts in many famous venues in the UK and on tour.

During these years, he was supported by his wife Win, who at one time was a member of the choir ladies support group.

Sadly, ill health and advancing years have caused Ken to stand down as chairman of the Pembrokeshire group and as a regular chorister.

The Pembrokeshire group rehearses at Bloomfield Community Centre, Narberth, every Wednesday evening from 7.30 pm.

The group conductor, Juliet Rossiter, welcomes any new members.

Further enquiries can be made to Peter Spacey on (01834) 861875 or to Keith Nixon on (01834) 871887.

The choir has five groups spread across West and South Wales and also a group of Exiles based in Oxfordshire. Some of these choristers travel from as far as Romsey and Southampton.

The choir rehearses together usually once a month at Cwmavon, near Port Talbot, under the baton of choir conductor, Elaine Robbins.

On August 14, the South Wales Choir will perform at St. David's Cathedral along with the now famous North Pembrokeshire Newyddion Dda Choir. Tickets from St. David's Bookshop on 01437 720480.

Then in October, they visit the Royal Albert Hall for the London Welsh Massed Male Voice Choir Festival, followed by a Christmas concert on December 4 at Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest, in aid of the Paul Sartori Fund and Macmillan Cancer Relief.

In August 2011, the choir are breaking new ground with a cruise to the Baltic capitals, visiting Tallinn, Helsinki, St. Petersburg and Copenhagen and Alborg.
