Whitland Male Voice Choir have resumed their rehearsals after a short rest for the month of August.

Before the gentlemen took time off, they entertained the ladies and gentlemen of Bleanmarlais Residential Home in Narberth. Hubert Phillips, a member of the bass section, sang two songs and the whole choir and ladies and gentlemen of the home performed an old-time medley of songs which were prepared by the M.D.

The choir also sang at Jeffreyston Church as part of their flower festival celebrations. The whole church was decorated with beautiful arrangements. Soloists for this concert were Lloyd Williams, a baritone from Carmarthen, and Hefina, their talented accompanist, who also took a turn at conducting the choir for a few items. Juliet, the usual MD, changed jobs to become the accompanist for these items.

On the very last day of July, the choir sang at Tabernacle Chapel in Whitland as part of the Whitland Week celebrations. Soloist for this concert was Lisa Jones, a young lady from Whitland, who was accompanied by Chris Lovegrove on the piano.

Preparations are now complete for the choir's visit to the twin-town of Whitland, Pipriac in Brittany.

The choir will sing at the beautiful church of St. Nicholas in Pipriac and at a church in the nearby city of Riennes. This will be the choir's first visit to Pipriac and everyone is very excited about this trip.

At the end of October, the choir will attend rehearsals in Neath for the massed choir concert in March 2012.

This rehearsal will be taken by Alwyn Humphreys, who is probably best known as the past conductor of Morrison Orpheus Choir. He has been chosen to conduct the massed choir festival in Manchester next year.

The choir meet every Thursday evening at 7.30 pm at the Memorial Hall in Whitland.

Anyone who would like to attend a rehearsal will be made most welcome.

Please call the secretary, Stan Phillips, on 01994 240053, if you would like the choir to sing at a concert in your area. There are still a few dates in their concert calender for 2012.
