Pupils at Stackpole School have been giving their teachers the run around - all in the name of health and fitness. Sixty-nine children at the primary school have been running as far as they can in break times to take part in The Mile Challenge. "The children are adding up their total mileage from the whole term and they get certificates when they reach 30, 40 and 50 miles," said organiser Ann McGahey. The children also took part in the Tesco Great School Fun Run for the Guinness Book of Records and added the one and a quarter miles they ran to their grand totals. "We set up a course that went around the playground, garden and sports field and all the juniors took part," added Mrs. McGahey. "They've all really enjoyed doing it, even the slower ones who might be taking longer, but who are achieving personal bests along the way." Headteacher Kevin Phelps is delighted the pupils have got so involved in the idea. "We are a fit bunch here and are always looking for ways to promote health and fitness," he said. "It's been wonderful to see the whole school get behind the run." Local Assembly Member Angela Burns was on hand on the day of the fun run to start the children off. "I was very impressed by the enthusiasm and fitness shown by the children and the school, and Ann in particular, should be commended for making exercise such fun."
