Four childhood friends are continuing their emotional 225-mile walk from Llangwm in Pembrokeshire to Chamberlain Square in Birmingham to honour the memory of their and other fathers everywhere, and to raise funds for two important causes - the British Heart Foundation and Help Harry Help Others Cancer Charity.
Day 2 of The Walk on June 6, was one of ups and downs for the team who originate from the Yardley area of Birmingham - with Neil Hames admitting at one point he was almost ready to give up. The inclines and declines of the Pembrokeshire coastal path resulted in him commenting he'd never known pain like it!
Paul Maynard said it was beautiful and nasty - but they got through it together and nailed the last seven miles.

“It's not competition and they are a team that works together. We just need to make sure we do the distance,” he said.
However, the wonderful support Neil, Paul, Mike Rose and Marc Brooke received along the way from well-wishers and those curious as to what they were doing and why made all the difference. Many shared stories of their own experiences of cancer and heart disease and were extremely generous in their giving to British Heart Foundation and Help Harry Help Others.
The team walked from RAF Manorbier to St Clears via Lydstep, Penally, Tenby, Saundersfoot and Amroth, a total of around 22 miles. At this stage they had ticked off 47 miles out of the 225 miles.

Inspired by the memory of Neil’s father, Wally Hames, who passed in 2020, the group are walking for 11 days through some of Britain’s most scenic landscapes.
Their journey ends on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, in Birmingham’s Chamberlain Square—a powerful tribute to the fathers they honour and the lives they hope to change through their fundraising efforts.
