The annual Caradoc James Memorial Fund for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) Pitch and Putt golf tournament held at Heatherton Country Sports Park recently was another outstanding success.
Winner of the Caradoc Charity Shield was 'Snowy' Stevens, with Wayne Warlow second and Biddy Baxter third.
First in the Ladies competition was Lesley Butcher, with Shirley Johnson second and Jackie Brown third.
Winner in the Veterans class was Harry Ward, with Rob Ellis a close runner-up, while top junior was Daniel Sanson.
Lee Brace won the Pro event, with Shaun Facknell second and Scott Williams third.
"The pitch and putt tournament is our main fund-raising event during the year," said Mrs. Maureen Ward, of the Caradoc James Memorial Fund.
"Through the generosity of the event sponsors and those taking part, we have raised a substantial amount towards us being able to bring a mobile screening unit and technicians to Tenby in the near future.
"Screening is vital as it provides early detection of heart problems in children and young adults which can often be the cause of what they term SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome).
"The last time we carried out a screening, four people were detected as having problems and, as a result of this early detection, those problems are now being successfully treated.
"Our aim is to convince the Government to introduce a screening programme for children and young adults like they have in other European countries.
"Until then, however, fund-raising like this is vital to help finance these volunteer screenings and we are extremely grateful to all who supported our pitch and putt tournament."
Mrs. Ward expressed her sincere thanks to the Davies family, of Heatherton; to the Pig and Puffin, Tenby, for hosting the after-tournament presentations; and to event sponsors Texaco, T. P. Hughes and Tenby Royal British Legion.
