Friday nights are pig roast barbecue nights at Cresswell Quay.
The weather so far this year has been at best unpredictable and at worst downright awful!
Some of these have been cancelled or postponed and others have gone ahead hoping for an improvement in conditions, everyone, of course, eager to raise money for their particular charity.
Friday, July 15, was the turn of the Cancer Research group from Carew and Cresswell Quay to hold their pig roast, and yes, you've guessed, the weather true to form was grey, cool and showery! Would people support it or would they stay at home? We need not have been concerned, there was a steady flow of locals and visitors buying from the stall, purchasing raffle tickets and enjoying the food from the barbecue, manned skillfully by Maurice Cole and Andy Pannell.
Forty cadets and their leaders arrived en-masse at about 8.30 having hiked a long way and obviously hungry, so it didn't take long for them to demolish the remains of the pig roast (good job they had been expected!)
The raffle took place and the first prize a hamper of groceries was won by Dianne Griffiths. Louise Adam won a £10 Tesco voucher and Sue Jenkins won a £10 voucher to spend at Milton Farm Shop. A bottle of brandy went to Marie Chandler, a box of Black Magic was taken home by Charlie Oakley, while a bottle of wine was picked up by Barbara Stoddard. The final two prizes, a table cloth and a flower pouch, went to Marianne Francis and Anna Arthur.
We were delighted at the amount raised which was amounted to £580. Our thanks to Maurice and Janet Cole for allowing the event to take place and to Maurice and Andy for keeping the barbecue going smoothly so there was a constant supply of food.
Our thanks to all who helped in any way and most of all to everyone who supported us yet again, we are truly grateful for your unstinting generosity.
