Two local charities have recently benefited to the tune of £5,000 each.
Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal and the Dean Mason Memorial Fund have received donations from the Institute for Cemetery and Crematorium Management.
The money is the proceeds of the sales of metals recycled from cremations carried out at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.
The recycling is only carried out with the written consent of each bereaved family, and without this consent these donations would not have been possible.
Elly’s dad, Lyn Neville, said: “A donation of £5,000 is truly amazing and will make a huge difference to equipment that can be purchased to help and support Cancer Patients on Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital.
“We really appreciate this donation as do all the Nurses, Staff and Patients on Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital.”
The Dean Mason Memorial Fund was set-up following the tragically sudden death of a young man from Lampeter Velfrey. Dean died from a previously undiagnosed heart condition in 2010 aged just 26.
His fund raises money for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
In a statement his family said: “This is a fantastic amount of money which will help a great deal towards the aims of the charity as well as those of Dean’s family.
“Since the sudden passing of Dean, we have been raising funds in order to get as many young people screened for undiagnosed heart conditions as possible through CRY.
“We have to date managed to screen in excess of 1,000 people between the age of 14 and 35, resulting in catching a number of conditions which can easily be monitored and treated.”
