Saunderfoot Strollers were really pleased to raise over a £1,000 on behalf of Paul Sartori, Parkinsons Society and Mind in the recent New Year’s Day Swim, with thanks to everyone who sponsored them.
Twenty-five of the Strollers met up in St. Ishmaels recently for a three-mile circular walk.
The group followed the coast path west for a mile or so, offering excellent views of the Haven, Angle Peninsula and Dale peninsular, as far as Monk Haven Beach, where there was once a monastic settlement with 1,000 monks residing in the area.
It also offered refuge to Pilgrims who would get off the pilgrim boats here to make the rest of their journey to St. Davids on foot. This saved them the often treacherous sea journey around the more westerly Pembrokeshire coast.
Their walk then took the Strollers inland to the secluded sheltered hamlet of Monk Haven with its delightful church, where after a look around inside, the Strollers were pleased to find lots of snowdrops in full bloom in the churchyard.
On arrival back at the cars, the short journey was made to St. Ishmaels Garden Centre Cafe where delicious refreshments were enjoyed.
