The orange bag scheme remains a tremendous success thanks to the enthusiasm and participation of residents. However, to ensure it remains so Pembrokeshire County Council is constantly monitoring the scheme and the markets - the companies that recycle materials collected. The volatility of these markets mean that changes may need to be made from time to time. In recent months, there has been no outlet for certain types of plastics such as yoghurt pots, margarine tubs and ice cream containers. As a consequence, the council has had no option but to stop collecting these materials. As a result from now on only plastic bottles can be recycled through orange bags. These include all sorts of bottles from fizzy drink bottles to washing powder containers and shampoo bottles. In addition to make the sorting of material more effective and efficient, the council is asking householders to place any unwanted paper into a carrier bag within their orange bag. Leaflets are being sent out to residents outlining the changes.
