Tenby's Greenhill took part in the West Wales Schools U15 Basketball Championship last week. They travelled with a full squad with great optimism.
Their first match saw them play Tasker Milward School. The opening minutes were very tense, with both sides not wanting to concede a basket.
Greenhill used their big man, Aran Torok, to good effect and he soon put the Tenby team into the lead. It was a low-scoring first half, with the half-time score 6-4 in Greenhill's favour.
The second half saw Greenhill relax more and pull away. Dan Colley played very well as the playmaker, with Aran Torok scoring the majority of the points. Good defensive displays were given by Jamie Nicholas, Luke Laidler, Dan Griffiths and Adam Morgan.
The final score was 12-4 to Greenhill.
The Greenhill team then played another game against Tasker, using all the players that did not play in the first match.
Ollie Morgan controlled the play well, while Robert Whitfield scored well, ably supported by Ashley Murdock, Matthew Edwards-Jones and Jamie Sowerby-Robinson.
They eventually ran out winners by six points to nil.
Greenhill then played their final game against Milford, knowing that all they had to do was win to become West Wales champions.
Again they started slowly, concentrating on defence. Gradually they came more into the game, with Milford fouling Aran Torok regularly and Aran scoring the free points. The Greenhill defence was magnificent, with Dan Colley everywhere.
Greenhill increased their lead and at the final whistle they had won the match by 12-0 and with it the West Wales Championship. This was a very good performance considering that half the boys had not played in a competitive match before.
Squad: Aran Torok, Dan Colley, Dan Griffiths, Luke Laidler, Jamie Nicholas, Adam Morgan, Ollie Morgan, Ashley Murdoch, Robert Whitfield, Jamie Sowerby-Robinson, Matthew Edwards-Jones.
