During the summer months, the Dolygaer Outdoor Education Centre played host to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards 2011.
Dolygaer is situated between the Pontsticill and Pentwyn reservoirs in the Brecon Beacons National Park, about five miles north of Merthyr Tydfil. The centre is on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and challenging countryside to be found anywhere in the UK.
Rotary clubs throughout Wales sponsor students to attend this week-long challenging course and this year the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot were proud to send David Duckworth with Bethan Gosnald, who was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tenby, both being pupils at Greenhill School.
On Monday, September 12, David and Bethan gave a presentation to the members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot on the activities and challenges they undertook at Dolygaer. They were members of different teams that competed to complete various tasks that tested their skills and abilities in an unknown environment and with team members they had never worked with before.
On the final night, parents and Rotarians attended a BBQ where the course members provided excellent entertainment. Everyone agreed it had been an exciting, challenging week, where many new friendships had been struck.
After their presentation, club president Mac Walapu was photographed with David and Bethan displaying the Rotary Youth Leadership Certificates awarded for completing the course at Dolygaer.
