Celebrating her 100th birthday today (Friday) is well-known Narberth personality Mrs. Winifred Jones (known to most as Win Searle). Mrs. Jones, who lived in Narberth for many years until moving to Pencoed Residential Home, Wooden, in December, was born on June 8, 1907, in Romford, Essex. She spent most of her early life in Wood Green, London, before moving with her family to Cornwall during the war. She first came to Pembrokeshire in the early 1950s to work at Netherwood, Saundersfoot. She later assisted the late Mrs. Audrey Bull in her antiques business in Upper Frog Street and developed a fascination with antiques, later having her own antiques business in Narberth and after that assisting her daughter Christine in her antique shop in St. James Street, Narberth. Mrs. Jones was actively involved in many of Narberth's organisations, including Civic Week, the Queen's Hall, Bloomfield, the Chamber of Trade, Town Council, Bloomfield Community Centre, where she was a founder member, and the town's swimming pool, where she was a founder member of the Over 55s Club. In fact, swimming is her favourite past-time and she was recently treated to a holiday in Stackpole where she was able to make full use of the indoor pool. Mrs. Jones has a daughter Linda White, who lives in California, four grandchildren, Robert, of Narberth, and Roxanna, of Pencader, and Andres and Carlos Sosa, of California, three great-grandchildren, Lance and Stefanie, of Pencader, and Michael Joseph, of California. She was predeceased by her daughter Christine Morgan. Staff and fellow residents at Pencoed will be throwing a celebratory party for Mrs. Jones today (Friday), while there will be a party for family and friends at the home of her grandson Robert and his wife Liz in Cold Blow tomorrow (Saturday).
