A CONCERT featuring the cream of West Wales' musical talent will take place at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, on Thursday, September 11, at 7.30 pm when five finalists from this year's Young Musician of Dyfed competition perform a rich variety of music, including works by Beethoven, Rachmaninov, and Schubert. Pianist Sabrina Morgan, from Tenby will be playing alongside Georgina Davies (harp), Molly-Rowan Sharples (violin), Epsie Thompson (flute) and Jay Snow (piano). The concert has been organised by Young Music Makers of Dyfed, a local charity that annually offers hundreds of young people across West Wales the opportunity to work alongside professional musicians. The concert will include the performance of a new work by Fleur Snow (sister to Jay) written for Epsie Thompson, current holder of the Young Musician of Dyfed title. The piece was commissioned by Young Music Makers of Dyfed in Dyfed in recognition of the quality of work produced by Fleur during her participation in the Dyfed Young Composers scheme. Mike Parkin, chair of the charity, said: "We hope this concert will raise much-needed funds for us as the cost of our activities this year will be in the region of £43,000. "However, equally important is our commitment to give these young players a public platform on which they can develop their performance skills. There is a vast difference between rehearsing in your front room and perfoming before an audience. Concerts such as these have an important role to play in their development as fully rounded musicians." Tickets for the concert cost £8 (concessions £5) and will be available on the door at St. Mary's Church, on the evening of the concert on Thursday, September 11, at 7.30 pm.
