This year’s Boxing Day Swim in Tenby will celebrate ‘All Things Welsh’ - with fundraisers encouraged to dress up in Cymru inspired costumes - when they take to the sea!

The annual iconic swim will take place on Thursday, December 26 - this year celebrating ‘All Things Welsh’ as the organisers look ahead to welcoming the National Eisteddfod of Wales to Pembrokeshire in 2026!

Meet from: 11 am, with those taking the splash hitting the water at 11.30am.

One of Wales’s best-loved festive traditions, the event sees hundreds of brave swimmers, cheering crowds, and plenty of post-dip celebrations to warm you up on Tenby’s North Beach.

And this year, organisers are adding an extra wave of Welsh pride to the sea!

Those taking part have been given an ‘All Things Welsh’ theme - and a chance to get creative with their fancy dress costumes, to help celebrate Welsh culture, heritage, and legends!

Think red dragons, daffodils, leeks, rugby stars, bards, miners, castles, choir singers, or icons like Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey. The more imaginative and Cymru-inspired, the better!

After your chilly dip, enjoy hot soup and receive a commemorative medal to celebrate your bravery (or madness!)

Organisers are suggesting a £10 donation per swimmer - not an entry fee, but a way to support local causes while taking part.

This year’s swim will raise funds for four incredible local charities:

• Tenby RNLI – Saving lives at sea

• Tenby Sea Cadets – Building skills and confidence for young people

• The Old Chapel on Lower Frog Street – Supporting the local community

• Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity – Helping children and families through loss

Over the years, the Tenby Boxing Day Swim has raised more than £300,000 for good causes. With the Eisteddfod coming to Pembrokeshire next year, this is your chance to start the celebrations early – Welsh style!

Named as one of Britain’s top ten barmiest winter dips, Tenby’s famous Boxing Day Swim has been an institution in the seaside town for more than 50 years.

The first Tenby Boxing Day Swim took place in 1971 and saw £400 raised for radar equipment for the town’s lifeboat.

The event attracted 100 participants and swimmers were led into the water by veteran dipper, 86-year-old Mary Hallwright of Tenby!

The Tenby Boxing Day Swim is organised by the Tenby Sea Swimming Association, and has snowballed over the years into one of Wales’ top festive highlights.

The event took the plunge for the 50th time in 2022.

Last year’s record-breaking event saw a huge turn-out of 1,150 swimmers – many in fancy dress to reflect the Superhero theme, in tribute to the RNLI in its 200th anniversary year.

Batman, The Incredibles, Wonderwoman and a whole crew of emergency services dashed into the chilly waters of North Beach once again on December 26, helping to raise £4,000 for the RNLI - the largest-ever made to the charity by the Tenby Sea Swimming Association.
