Proposals to site a Victorian style children's carousel in Tenby's Tudor Square during next summer's pedestrianisation period were rejected by members of the town council on Tuesday.

Before the council was a copy of a letter from Mr. John Dooner, of The Granary, Hodgeston, to the licensing department of Pembrokeshire County Council inquiring as to how he should go about applying for a licence for the carousel, which would be a moveable structure and only operate during the pedestrianisation period.

While Clr. Mickey Folland felt Mr. Dooner provided an excellent service with his horse and carriage rides around the town, he felt that a carousel in Tudor Square would be contrary to the objectives of the pedestrianisation.

"We are trying to keep Tudor Square as clear as possible and if we say yes to one, the number could escalate," he opined.

Clr. Miss Lis James agreed.

"This would be out of keeping with Tudor Square," she commented. "Perhaps there may be other locations where it could go."

"It's a lovely idea, but if we let one in we'd have to let others in," agreed the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.
