As we were going to press yesterday (Thursday), three of the world's most successful rock stars were in Tenby to launch 'Carew Rock', a rock concert for 10,000 people to be staged at Carew Airfield, in aid of the RNLI, Wales and West Mercia Region.

Kenney Jones, rated as one of the world's greatest drummers and former member of the Small Faces, Rod Stewart and The Faces, and The Who, heads up the 'Jones Gang', a band that the American media are calling 'Rock Royalty'. The Jones Gang will headline the 'Carew Rock Concert'.

At the press conference yesterday, Kenney Jones, and Jones Gang band members Robert Hart (former lead singer with Bad Company) and bass player Rick Wills (former member of one of the world's biggest album selling bands Foreigner, and ex-member of Peter Frampton's Camel) were joined by staff of the RNLI, to launch the August 5 concert.

Also taking part in the concert will be international star, Paul Young, with his new band Los Pacaminos. Another named band will be announced shortly for the evening, and three other bands will be announced as supports very soon.

The concert begins at 3 pm from a giant outdoor stage with video screens and runs until midnight. In an adjoining field next to the concert arena, there will be beer tents, a variety of different hot and cold foods available, and at least 50 stalls selling cloths, jewellery, crafts etc.. There will also be a small fun fair.

Special guest stars who will take to the stage during the evening will be announced over the coming weeks. The Jones Gang, who have recently had big success in America with a number one hit single, a rock ballad called 'Angel' from their album 'Any Day Now', have never played in Wales before. The promoters of the concert said: "Welsh rock fans are in for a real treat! Fans of Kenney Jones, either from his days with the Small Faces, Rod Stewart and The Faces, or The Who, will not be disappointed on the night. The Jones Gang set includes a mix of original new album material, and some great classic numbers from Kenney's three previous world-famous bands." Companies supporting the concert so far are Texaco and the Hyundai Car Company UK. Other sponsors will be announced shortly. All profits from - what promises to be a world-class event in Pembrokshire - will go to support the brave work of the men of the RNLI. Tickets will be on sale very shortly at £20 in advance from appointed booking agents, and £25 at the gate on the day.

The promoters said: "We want everyone to come to 'Carew Rock' and have a great summer day out with friends or family, and enjoy some truly great international rock music!"
