On Monday, May 26, Carew Football Club held a presentation evening for its junior section. A large gathering of players and their families were in attendance.
Gethin Evans, club chairman, opened the proceedings by thanking the three main sponsors for the junior section for their much needed donations this season: Carew Inn, OndeoNalco and Mainport. He then went on to thank the junior coaches, Clive Whitfield, Neil Morgan, Clive Sillence and Mark Hicks for all their hard work and commitment over what turned out to be a very long season.
Each coach then praised the effort and behaviour of their players both on and off the pitch. They also thanked those parents who had helped out each week with the pitches, training and transport. Their continued help and support was invaluable to the running of the teams and was very much appreciated.
This year the club invited Deryn Brace, the ex-Norwich City, Wrexham and Wales U21 player, to present a medal to each member of the U13s, U12s, U11s, U10s and U8s. Deryn also presented the seasonal awards to the league teams which were as follows:
Under 11s: Most improved player - Joel Read; Players' player - Jordan Richards; Clubman - James Hinchliffe.
Under 12s: Most improved player - James Shuttleworth; Players' player - Matthew Whitfield; Clubman - Robert Weston.
After the presentations, a buffet was enjoyed by all present. Many thanks to everyone involved with Carew AFC, junior and senior section, and a special thank you to Deryn Brace for attending and presenting the awards to the children.
