Carew

HOCKEY CLUB 3

Swansea Bay 1

After conceding an early goal from a short corner error, Carew went on to dominate the game against a high-riding Swansea Bay team, with captain Jamie Smith putting in two and young Sam Barton scoring his first goal for the club in his first season and only his fourth senior game.

Vice-captain Emlyn Williams was unavailable, so Aled Griffiths moved back to right-half and, with Tom Pritchard at right-back, dominated the right flank, while Clements and young Joel Meredith took charge of the left flank..

Tom Ferguson was outstanding in the middle, with veteran Wheeler holding the centre midfield. Bowles, Moseley and Cole being confident in defence, made it an easy afternoon for Leigh Thomas, who had a fine game in goal.

Carew A 5

Llanishen & Caerphilly 2

This result continues a good start to only the second season of the Carew A side, after a hard fought match between them and the visitors.

Carew went one up until Llan & Caer equalised with a penalty stoke.

The defence of S. Lewis (goalkeeper), I. Baker, D. Ferguson, S. Moseley and P. Pullen had to work hard to keep the visitors at bay, but then Carew went another goal down.

Due to an injury, A. Baker had to go off, to be replaced by D. Lewis. He and the other midfielders of Meredith, Cole and Doona continued many fast breaks into the Llan & Caer half, giving them and the strikers of A. Pullen and Fieldhouse opportunitites on goal, resulting in an equaliser just before half-time.

Although there was pressure from both sides during the second half, Carew managed to get the bettter of their opponants, getting three more goals to seal the match.

Team: S. Lewis, I. Baker, D. Ferguson, S. Moseley, P. Pullen, A. Baker, J. Meredith, Z. Cole, J. Doona, D. Lewis, A. Pullen, M. Fieldhouse. Substitute - J. Pullen

Umpires: J. Wheeler and D. Miller.

Abergavenny 4 Carew A 2

Trying to keep up the momentum of the first three games, Carew A made a strong start to this match, with the midfield and attack comprising D. Lewis, Evans, Cole, Doona, Fieldhouse and A. Pullen, having most of the ball.

Carew went into half-time 2-0 up. After the break, Abergavenny seemed to come out a different team. It was their turn to have most of the possession and put the Carew defence of S. Lewis (goalkeeper), I. Baker, Ferguson, P. Pullen and Reid under continual pressure.

Carew found it hard to get out of their half and, despite some fine runs from the midfield, the home team managed to get four goals for a well-deserved win and left Carew a long drive home.

Team: S. Lewis, I. Baker, D. Ferguson, M. Reid, P. Pullen, D. Lewis, J. Evans, Z. Cole, J. Doona, A. Pullen, M. Fieldhouse.
