Among matters considered and discussed at last month’s meeting of Carew Community Council were the following:

MATTERS ARISING - A report was received that communication with the Public Rights of Way officer at PCNPA had taken place regarding the walk from Milton Bridge to Radford Bridge and this would be surveyed shortly to ensure the necessary rectifications had been made.

Remuneration Panel - payments to councillors. Further discussion on this matter along with financial implications to the community council ensued. Councillors agreed to receive the stated amount or complete the opt out form and for the Remuneration Panel to be informed by September 30.

Review of mineral planning for Carew Quarry. It was with regret councillors heard that Carew Quarry was no longer trading. Councillors were disappointed to learn that there were no notices or neighbour letters regarding this review.

White lines Carew Castle car park and off Sageston roundabout - repainting was awaited.

Streetcare. Following reports received of dissatisfaction of residents in the area of Hays Lane and the ongoing problems and issues along the detrunked road, further discussion about the lack of communication and progress, it was agreed to contact the cabinet member for infrastructure to arrange a site meeting.

It was agreed to ascertain ownership of the land between the Carew roundabout and Honeys Park.

LDP candidate sites - Following discussion on these sites in January, it was confirmed that the observations of the community council for Milton had been lodged with the LDP Panel and would be included. Deposit stage would be reached at the end of the year.

Car park resurfacing - It was hoped that this quote would be received in time for next meeting.

PLANNING

It was noted that permission had been granted by PCC for the erection of garage at Cae Sgubor, Llanigwynett.

Variation of condition 3 (limiting number of caravans) of planning permission ref 13/0429/PA to increase caravan pitches from two to three and erection of additional units – land adjacent to Pincheston Farm Complex, Sageston, Following further perusal and discussion of the plans, documents and accompanying reports, councillors unanimously agreed not to support this further application and to urge refusal of the proposal by PCC.

Two-storey extension to the rear and a single storey extension side extension to Parc Cottage, Cresselly. Following perusal of the plans and detailed discussion there were no adverse comments and no obvious grounds for refusal identified. Councillors recommended approval of this planning application.

Land adjoining Redberth Gardens (formerly Redberth Lodge), Redberth - variation of condition 3 (holiday occupancy) of planning permission 97/0080/PA to allow the holiday units to be occupied throughout the year. Following discussion there were no adverse comments nor obvious grounds for refusal identified. Councillors recommended granting this planning application.

CORRESPONDENCE

A?letter was received from the treasurer of St. Mary’s Church seeking a contribution towards tending the war graves. In line with previous payments, it was proposed and seconded £300 be donated. All present agreed.

Defibrillators - Tenby and Saundersfoot First Responders were to be contacted regarding provision of a defibrillator for Whitehill.

Enhancing Pembrokeshire Grant. Following discussion, it was agreed to distribute information regarding this to all organisations in the parish. It was further discussed that small projects/initiatives within the parish could be considered, picnic area at the ford, parish environment group etc

Long Course Weekend - communication was received from Streetcare and the parking manager for PCC welcoming feedback and comments on the recent Long Course Weekend. Following discussion, it was agreed to provide PCC with the following points:

1. LCW signage was still evident and had not been removed especially in Whitehill, Carew Lane, Carew Village, Butts Lane.

2. Lack of shuttle buses on the airfield. These were provided for Ironman.

3. There were strong feelings both for and against, in praise and criticism for both events - Long Course and Ironman. However, it was generally agreed that some areas of the parish were affected more than others by the road closures.

4. There was good communication of road closures and of the event. The general feeling was that these two events certainly put Carew on the map.

5. The use of the road from Redberth to Llandigwynett which emerges at Freystone cross rather than through Sageston and Carew should be considered.

PARISH

MATTERS

The phone boxes in Carew and Whitehill needed repainting. It was suggested contacting PAVS to find volunteer(s) for these boxes.

Also the door on Milton phone box needed attention and repair.

Mrs. Morris was retiring after 40 years at Sageston School. It was agreed to send a retirement card.

Summer Festival at St. Mary’s Church, Carew Cheriton, Agust 16, 17 and 18.

Discussion on May 2020 75th anniversary of VE Day. It was agreed that members of the community council also members of the Control Tower would bring this up at their next meeting.

Overgrown verges were becoming hazardous, especially Carew Newton.

Paddock Walk – stinging nettles and overgrown verges and hedgerows were hazardous to walkers and residents attending church. PCC were to be contacted about this in order to bring forward these two sites in the grass cutting list.

Report on progress of the work at the Flemish Chimney. Some pointing work was required to the stone work.

Discussion on finding a community council handyman ensued and councillors would give this matter some thought prior to next meeting.

Hedges, trees etc around Carew Memorial Hall car park - The groundsman was to be asked to provide a quote to tidy up these hedges.

Recycle bins at PCNPA car park near play area - Again there were further problems with mess around these bins and the clerk was to contact the site manager at Carew Castle to seek views on their removal.

Notification was received of a vehicle in the parish seemingly abandoned without the necessary road tax. This is was to be reported to the police.

Meeting with Dwr Cymru on Milton Bridge and Marsh - to chase up unblocking of the arches and to ask for report on the meeting with NRW on repositioning of the outflow pipe further into the estuary.
