Sir,

Like many others, we are inextricably held under the fascinating spell of tracing our family history and we wonder if your readership might be able to assist.

My great-grandparents, David Evans (born 1833, Eglwysfair) and Margaret (née Hughes) (born 1837, Llangan), lived the latter part of their lives at 'Bristol House', St. Johns Street, Whitland, where they had a grocer, factor and butter merchant business. 1n 1901, they were 66 and 64 years of age and had run the business for at least 10 years. Some time after 1901, the business was taken on by their daughter, Margaret Ann Evans, who continued to reside at 'Bristol House' and who died in April 1952, aged 76.

We know that great-grandmother Margaret's family were the Hughes', of Rest Farm, and that a cousin of that address notified the 1952 death of daughter Margaret Ann. We also know that the 1952 estate of Margaret Ann Evans was administered by the (former?) Whitland firm of solicitors 'Roberts and Mathias'.

However, we have not been able to trace the marriage, death or burial of David and his wife Margaret, nor the burial of daughter Margaret Ann. Should anyone be able to offer any insight to events concerning grocer, butter business at 'Bristol House' or the lives or burials of David, Margaret and daughter Margaret Ann Evans, we would be extremely grateful.
