Sir,
I would be obliged if you would print this request in the Observer.
My friend, Mrs. Barbara Frith, of 96 Knowling Mead, Marsh Road, Tenby, is a patient at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, where she has just undergone an operation to have her right leg amputated. Her left leg is also giving cause for concern.
Barbara's husband has cancer of the bladder and has not got the strength to push her into town in a wheelchair.
Barbara hails from a well-known Tenby family and was born and bred in the town; her mother was Mary John (known as Mary Dempsey) and her grandfather was Jack John (also known as Jack Dempsey), who was a town crier in Tenby.
I wonder if there are any local charities or individuals in the Tenby town area who could raise around £5,000 for a Bec Sterling Scooter for her to get out and about instead of being trapped in her home which she does not like.
Barbara has always given to charities and supported raffles etc. and I am hoping that maybe the people of Tenby can help her now.
Anyone who would like to make a donation can pay it into the Barbara Frith Fund at Lloyds Bank, Tudor Square, Tenby, or who would like to help with fund-raising can contact me personally.
Thank you in anticipation.
Mrs. J. Kelly,
Restings,
Kiln Park Road,
Narberth.
