Breast Cancer Campaign is calling all adventurers to take on the challenge of a lifetime with a Great Wall Discovery Challenge to China in 2008.
The charity is looking for trekkers to take on the nine-day challenge on March 15 to help raise vital funds to enable Breast Cancer Campaign to continue researching the cure for breast cancer.
The Great Wall of China was originally constructed to keep out nomadic tribes who raided China's northern frontier. The trekking challenge starts in Jinshanling with a vigorous trek that loops along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway. The trek is demanding, but rewarding, with trekkers covering approximately 12 km each day. On completion of the challenge, trekkers will return to Beijing to explore the culture of China's capital city, including the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Lama Temple.
Friends Laura Holgate and Emma Freeborn are taking on the challenge for the campaign. Emma said: "I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 27 and after fighting the disease for over a year I then found that the cancer had spread to my spine. Laura is my best friend and we have decided to fight back against this awful disease by taking part in the trek to China. It's thanks to the amazing advances in breast cancer treatments funded by charities such as the campaign that I am doing so well and we want to do our bit to say thanks and continue the pace towards that much- needed cure. It is also going to be a huge amount of fun and we cannot wait."
Breast Cancer Campaign is the only charity that specialises in funding independent research into breast cancer throughout the UK. The campaign currently supports 95 research projects, worth over £11.6 million in 50 locations across the UK.
