The Colossal Cake Sale, held in Narberth on Saturday in aid of Help the Heroes, has been hailed a success, with so far the magnificent sum of £5,500 being raised. And the organisers say that it is very possible that they will hit the £6,000 mark! They will be calling the raffle on May 20, so still lots of pennies to come in from that and the recipe book has been going really well. "We will be more accurate with amounts in a couple of weeks," said one of the organisers, Sally Amoore, who has raised thousands of pounds for the the forces rehabilitation charity since 2009, when her younger son Jamie was horrifically injured in Helmand province. She continued: "The weather (well we all know what that was like!), thank goodness for the Army who helped to re-locate us to the RAOB Club from the car park. The wind was so strong that we had to bin the pretty little gazebos that had no chance against the wind! Sylvia Kilby from the RAOB Club was a complete star for opening her doors and her mightily generous heart to us. She allowed us to prop our tents against the club so we were able to be dry and plied us with hot coffee. We were really pleased with the turnout. "So many fantastically generous cooks gave up lots and lots of time to bake for us. The displays were beautiful. We are so grateful to everybody who rallied round to make it such a success. Some bakers even took the day off on Friday to dedicate to baking. We had some delicious offerings and all beautifully presented. "We had some beautiful cakes to enter the nationwide H4H Best Dressed Cake competition. Amser Te, of Whitland, produced a beautiful cake which was sold and then given to the Army for a fundraising event this week. A hard-working cake! Good luck for the competition which will be judged today (Friday). We will let you know the results. "Other lovely entrants were Lorraine Darton's stunning cake decorated with pink roses and Syliva's two strawberry and raspberry cakes. Jamie Bailey won the under 12 best dressed cake with his chocolate crispies. He was proud to say that he only ate one of them. Self-discipline indeed." Sally added: "As always, the support team was fantastic, holding out through wind and rain. Elinor Jones, the High Sheriff, opened the sale for us and singer Jodie Marie was all set to entertain us with her singing. Sadly, the drizzle and wind made it impossible to broadcast her, so we will have to hope she will come again next year. She helped out instead selling cakes. We sold lots of raffle tickets and merchandise and our recipe book was very popular. "We just want to thank everyone who donated cakes and biscuits and who supported us - a brilliant effort and we hope that next year will be even more successful."
