Do you remember the brilliant effort Tenby and surrounding communities made years ago to raise funding for our town's Christmas lighting?
A 'Buy a Bulb' initiative was launched and everyone was encouraged to 'buy a bulb' for the sum of £1. Our lighting up of the town during the festive period has come a long way since then, hasn't it?
With the success of this initiative in mind, the Friends of the Jubilee Park are launching 'Buy a Bolt'.
While Tenby Town Council have contributed approximately half the cost, the Friends still need to raise a substantial amount to 'rebuild' the premier play park overlooking the South Beach, not only for local children, but also for our tourists.
"We have already had some financial support through the generosity of Tenby Civic Society and New Hedges WI and have held some fundraisers of our own, but we intend to open the park for use at the beginning of June to coincide with HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee and we desperately need the community's help to help us achieve our goal," explained treasurer of the Friends, Christine Brown.
"We aim to site play equipment for six to 12-year-olds and also provide equipment for skate and wheeled play, and plans of the proposed scheme are on view at the De Valence Pavilion.
"The easiest way you can help is to 'Buy a Bolt' and contribute £1 to the project. We would also like shops and businesses with customer footfall to help us and sell Buy a Bolt tickets for us."
Anyone who thinks they can help is asked to contact Lynda Hensman on 842730 or Christine Brown on 07812 156 329.
"Please help the Friends by supporting this community initiative," urged Christine.
FAMILY AFTERNOON
FUNDRAISER
A half-term family afternoon has been arranged for Monday, February 13, 2-4 pm at the De Valence with children's entertainment with Fergie and Steve.
Entry fee is £1.50 (children under eight must be accompanied by an adult).
There is also a secondhand book sale stall in the foyer of the De Valence and donations are invited for any books purchased.
In addition, the fund-raising fund has been swelled by a generous £500 gift from an anonymous donor, for which Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown gave thanks at Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council.
After Clr. Mrs. Brown had given a report on the play park plans so far, Mayor, Clr. Trevor Hallett, congratulated the committee on their hard work.
