The Under 11s have had a mixed season and fortunes have ebbed and flowed, as has the availability of certain key players. It has been necessary to call on Under 10 players to fill in the gaps, but obviously at this age a year makes a big difference, but those recruited on no occasion let their colleagues down.
Back on Easter Sunday, the lads travelled to Milford Haven in the quarter-finals of the Pembrokeshire Cup and pulled off a magnificent win on a heavy pitch by 25 points to 10.
Stalwarts Tom Griffiths and Matthew Watkins propped, with Liam Watkins slotting in at hooker and with Henry Boot leading the side by example, the tigerish Swifts pack outplayed their big opponents.
Jamie Williams, normally the U10s fly-half, came into the second row with credit and Matthew Daniels, the 10s fullback assisted with hooking duties when required.
Sam Baker played one of his best games at scrum-half and linked well with new 'find' Billy Vaughan and outside-half. Simon Stanford showed pace in skating across the mud on the wing and Joe Kidney was an incisive runner in midfield.
The victory against Milford led to a semi-final place against Whitland at home. The game was played on a sunny Thursday evening and despite going down to the probable ultimate winners, the Tenby boys can be proud of themselves.
The team was boosted by the return of Guto Griffiths, Dave Dedman, Jamie Robins and Robert Colley, who, in addition to all the boys who had played on the quarter-final, gave Whitland something to think about.
The cup out of the way, attentions were turned last Sunday to the Cardigan game and once again Tenby, after conceding an early lead, fought back in the second half to contain an excellent Cardigan team.
Too many points had been amassed by their opponents, however, to allow any chance of victory by Tenby, but to their credit the boys did not surrender and fought bravely to the end, going down by 45-0.
