In addition to the much-enjoyed Christmas activities in the run up to the end of the year, Tenby Rotarians also recently enjoyed a visit to the refurbished Control Tower and Visitor Centre at Carew Airfield, and also progressed to the zone final of the Rotary Quiz with an emphatic away victory at the Fishguard and Goodwick Club.

The visit to Carew Cheriton Airfield Control Tower and Visitor Centre was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone - all were extremely impressed with what the volunteers have created in not only saving the control tower, but in developing a remarkable, well resourced and extremely interesting visitor centre where the history of the site during its wartime military use comes to life.

In addition, the Rotarians were treated to a fascinating slide show, by stalwart volunteer Mr. John Brock, who further brought the history to life with photos and a highly interesting and informative commentary on the site and the characters portrayed.

John's talk also gave everyone a poignant and humbling reminder of the ultimate sacrifice paid by so many of the airmen who were based at Carew from all over the world, some of whom are buried at the nearby military cemetery, which is also lovingly maintained by the volunteers, which must be a great comfort to the relatives of those that perished.

The club is extremely grateful to John and his colleagues for the welcome they received, and also to Mandy and staff at the Carew Inn for the lovely meals prepared to round off the evening.

In addition, the Tenby Rotarians also progressed to the zone final of the Rotary quiz with an emphatic win away at the Fishguard and Goodwick Club.

Tenby raced into a big early lead, and whilst the hosts recovered somewhat in the second half, Tenby won through to face Milford Haven and Narberth and Whitland in the three-way zone final, to be held shortly at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel in Narberth.
