Carew Youth Club has been very busy already and we are still only in January!

The members met back after the Christmas break with an open evening; there was much excitement as it was the night before the pantomime trip. Everyone had a nice evening; Ollie, James, Andy and Chloe sorted out all the new tuck stock, as well as organising some games with the parachute and an old favourite dog and bone. Big thanks to all the young leaders who take such an active role in the club.

Saturday was the big day, the trip to see the pantomime Aladdin. A total of 104 people came along and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was an excellent show. It was the first time some of us had seen 3D; the affects were superb. I think some tried to climb on board that magic carpet, it seemed so real. I am sure a few of us would quite like our own little magic lamp too (I am sure John Brock probably has an old lamp stashed away somewhere - we could give it go).

Last week, Gwen led the evening for us. It is quite amazing the ideas Gwen keeps coming up with; such creative yet simple ideas - everyone can have a go. The theme for the night was Chinese New Year. As it is the year of the Water Dragon, everyone made cards with water dragons on them.

Some of the leaders began to tidy the cupboards and came across newspaper cuttings and photos dating back to the early '80s (that pretty much stopped the tidying process!). There was much laughter finding photos of members past and present; there were some fine haircuts (and colours) sported over the years! It was fascinating to see the names of people who were involved with the club back then and now their own children and grandchildren come along to the club. Tracy and Sian, two of our leaders, were not quite so pleased when we found old pictures of them from when they used to attend club - ah such sweet children!

We also found a newspaper article reporting the opening of the Youth Centre back in September 1975 - the headline said 'Best Youth Club in Britain'. Far be it for me to say that this still stands. I think we will let those who have passed through, come along today and those that long to be eight so they can join, be the judge of that!

It was so lovely looking back and well done to those people who documented everything - you have put us to shame and we have resolved to put that right!

Deacon Janet Jenkins also joined us and closed the evening with the epilogue.

It is swimming tonight (Friday), so members are asked to meet at Tenby pool as usual.
