IF you fancy taking to the skies to help the Wales Air Ambulance, then Tenby Harbour will be the place to be this August.
Tenby Round Table's plans for their ever-popular summer spectaculars centred around the harbour and the natural amphitheatre of the North Bay on July 28 and August 11 are already well advanced.
However, this year, in addition to all the usual fun and frivolity, including fireworks, live bands and aerial displays, there will be the added attraction of sponsored bungee jumping at the second event!
The bungee jumping, organised by the Tenby Tablers in conjunction with bungee experts Freefall Bungee Wales, will enable intrepid jumpers to plunge 180 feet from a crane next to St. Julian's Church on the harbour while also raising money for charity.
Each year the Table spectaculars raise thousands of pounds for local charities, and the bungee jumping has been arranged as part of Tenby Table's contribution towards the Round Table Area 43 bid to raise £50,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance this year.
The Air Ambulance costs a mammoth £1.5 million a year to run, with costs being met entirely from charitable donations as there is no NHS funding available.
Airborne within three minutes and travelling at two miles a minute, the Air Ambulance can quickly reach incidents, particularly in rural areas, and can cut a three-hour road journey to hospital down to just 40 minutes, allowing seriously injured patients to be treated within the 'Golden Hour' and give them a far greater chance of recovery.
Round Tables throughout the old Dyfed area will all be raising funds for the charity, with several Tablers from other Round Tables in Area 43 joining with Tenby Table chairman Carl Evans in taking the plunge.
Also jumping will be Air Ambulance technician Dorian James, of Tenby ambulance station.
Anyone aged between 14 and 50 can take part, although those under 18 have to have written permission from their parents. Subject to medical advice, those over 50 can also take part.
Everyone who jumps will not only be afforded spectacular views over the harbour and Tudor Square before taking to the air, but will also be given a certificate and a free video of their plunge.
While Tenby Table aim to raise money for the Air Ambulance and would appreciate people prepared to jump for this worthy cause, they also welcome anyone wishing to take part in a sponsored bungee for their own chosen charity.
Sponsorship forms and full details are available from Tenby Round Table chairman Carl Evans on (01834) 842717 or (07812) 559482.
