Sir, Along with a couple of dozen interested parties I spent an instructive hour in Brother Thomas' Garden last Monday evening. The object was to hear the proposals Gary Tapley had for the future use of the area. He outlined interesting plans to create an open-air venue that would be available for cultural and artistic events such as plays, poetry reading, talks, small musical performances etc. Local educational establishments have also shown interest in his ideas. We were entertained by non-amplified musicians and speakers to get an idea of the acoustics within the garden, which were fine. Many present were aware of recent adverse comments about noise in the harbour area during the Summer Spectaculars, consequently during the performances I walked down Crackwell Street and round to the sluice area of the harbour. The music could just be heard, but it was certainly quieter than the call of seagulls. Transforming the garden into an attractive space that organisations in Tenby could use is a bold concept which will need careful sympathetic handling, the co-operation of several agencies and the backing of local people. The end result could be an exciting new theatrical venue in a town woefully short of them. Gary should be encouraged and supported in his efforts to bring to life a forgotten asset. Chris Sierwald, Tenby.
