Sir, As an elderly and disabled person myself, I would like to see the return of a proper Town Bus service, much like the old 380, but extending the route now to include Park House.
The Second Homes tax brought in this financial year has resulted in a large injection of cash into Tenby Town Council’s coffers, but the way it has been allocated out to various good causes, including a large slice to Tenby Museum, will do nothing to allay the so-called ‘blight’ of second homes, nor bring the community together, which were supposed to be the objectives in imposing this extra tax.
In the years the 380 was operating, it was a favourite venue for meeting friends old and new, sharing life experiences and supporting each other through whatever problems they were facing. For some elderly living alone, it was a chance to get out of the house and talk to people or to go to one or other of the various clubs and coffee mornings held in town. The loss of this invaluable service was a great blow to many and the return of a similar bus service would certainly do a great deal to bring the community together.
Mayor Sue’s idea of illuminating the town walls at night is charming, but how many people frequent South Parade at night, except as a drive-through to get to the multi-storey or visit Domino’s. The proposed extra lighting would also cause a problem to anyone living opposite. In these cash-strapped times, surely, CADW could be approached for help in restoring and maintaining our historic town walls? Sue recently held a meeting seeking volunteers, but, sadly, only a handful of people turned up.
So, Town Council, please do not forget the elderly and disabled in your deliberations; we are the ones who pay much of the Council Tax you receive.
Janice Gryckiewicz,
Seascape,
Tenby.
