LAST week saw Brendan Shine's third annual visit to Pembrokeshire when PJ Promotions put on another slick and entertaining country music concert at the Queen's Hall, Narberth. A capacity audience, some of whom had travelled from as far afield as Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury, revelled in the vast repertoire of the Irish maestro who seems to get better each year.

Backed by a very professional band, with daughter Emily at the keyboard, Brendan produced two hours of non-stop entertainment.

"It is amazing how much energy this man has," said Peter Jones, of PJ Promotions, who has known the jovial Irishman for nearly 30 years. "When you consider that last week's performance was number 35 in his current tour during which he has had only three nights off - it is absolutely astounding.

"The night before the band was in Birmingham and the following night they were appearing in Paignton," said Peter.

In addition, the last year has seen two tours of the United States when at one concert in Cleveland, Ohio, the audience totalled over 8,000.

Also present was Brendan's agent, well-known impresario, Noel Carty, who had flown over from Ireland especially for the performance.

"We are very impressed by PJ Promotions," said Noel. "We have been doing business with Peter for very many years and the four members of the company can be very proud of its excellent production of the show tonight.

"What impresses us is that they always look after the artists and make them very welcome. We look forward to a long association with PJ Promotions."

The supporting group for the evening were the excellent local duo The Bowen Brothers -very well known to Pembrokeshire audiences over the last few decades. Jeff and Chris gave a very polished, professional performance which had the audience clambering for more when their spot came to a close, all too soon for many.

Pauline Thomas, of Narberth, was the lucky winner of £25 in the raffle, which raised over £100 for the Noah's Ark Appeal. With a licensed bar and Maria's excellent food available, a wonderful night of entertainment was enjoyed by all.

Brendan Shine will be returning next year, but in the meantime country music fans can look forward to the next PJ Promotions concert when the ever-popular Irish singing star Ann Breen returns to the Dairies Club, Whitland, in March 2003.
