Sir,
Perhaps someone will tell us who is going to benefit from the new grandiose improvement of White Lion Street.
The artist's painting gives me the impression of a narrow back alley. The building line (assuming it is based on the fascia of the old hotel) makes allowance for a pathetic and equally narrow footpath between it and the road surface.
If the development has to be discussed, then would the planning authorities please put the building line where the front of the cinema stands now. Let the building line run through to the junction with The Norton and even some of the present vehicles will have some room! I assume, too, that on the other side of the new White Lion Street we will be retaining the town wall. That is one of the few glories of Tenby and currently well seen. Put the overpowering block on the new building line and our town wall would be diminished to the status of a garden wall. Should we be looking too at the demolishing of the Lion Hotel to a degree so that our town wall can go back to its original position with a true East Gate?
Perhaps, too, someone will explain where all the extra cars are going to be parked, cars bringing all the new customers to the cinema and the shops - cars owned by the new purchasers of the block of flats. Expand that argument, too, to the new Adelphi site.
Over to the developers and, more importantly, to the planning authority.
Ivor Jenkins, Cheshire.
